Home Secretary Suella Braverman has urged Britons to “think carefully” if they really want to risk inconvenience by traveling abroad this holiday season.
Her statement came after members of the Border Force who check travel documents at six of the country’s major airports, including Heathrow and Gatwick in London, called a multi-day strike.
The strike was announced for December 23-26 and December 28-31.
“I really want to urge people who have plans to travel abroad to think carefully about those plans because they could very well be affected,” Ms Braverman said.
As she pointed out, addressing those who want to visit Britain at the same time, she is not willing to risk the security of the borders by relaxing controls and this means that there will be long waits for flights from Britain, but also for checks on arrival in the country.
And Education Secretary Gillian Keegan has confirmed that 2,000 soldiers will be called upon to man the travel document checkpoints at the gates of entry into Britain while the strike lasts.
