The corruption and bribery scandal broke out last Friday in the European Parliament – In the next 24 hours, the judicial council will decide whether or not to pre-trial detention Kaili

Eva Kaili, who is among the 4 arrested for the Katar-Gate case, is being held in the maximum security prison, Saint-Gilles, in Brussels.
In the coming days, probably by Wednesday, the judicial council will decide whether or not Eva Kaili should be detained.

Eva Caili’s partner, Francesco Giorgi, the Italian former MEP Pier Antonio Panzeri and a Brussels lobbyist have been arrested for the case.

MEP Panzeri’s wife and daughter were placed under house arrest in Italy, as they allegedly knew about his dealings.

According to Belgian media, all 4 arrested are accused of corruption, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization.
Eva Kaili’s father and Luca Visentini, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, were released under restrictive conditions.

The case of financing European officials in order to promote the image and interests of Qatar in Europe is expected to be discussed today in the Plenary of the European Parliament.

As for what will be done with the positions held by Mrs. Kaili, today at 16.00 Greek time at the Conference of Presidents, the group of Socialists and Democrats will request her replacement from the position of vice president.

Two days after the corruption scandal in the European Parliament came to light in which the name of the MEP was involved, Qatar issued a statement calling the revelations “baseless”.

Specifically, in the statement issued on Sunday by the Qatari delegation to the EU, it speaks of an “unfounded and seriously misinformed” connection of the country to the case.

“The State of Qatar categorically rejects any attempt to link it to allegations of misconduct. Any connection of the Qatari government to the reported allegations is baseless and seriously misinformed.”
