Downing Street has confirmed that it has submitted a request to the leadership of the UK armed forces to train soldiers to fill ambulance driver positions in public hospitals during strikes called for this month.

The soldiers will be activated during the ambulance drivers’ strikes on December 21 and 28.

Already some soldiers have begun their training in hospitals to “familiarize themselves with the vehicles” they will be asked to drive, a government spokesman said.

The same has already started to be done to fill the positions of travel document inspectors at major UK airports by members of the armed forces.

There will be strike actions between 23-26 and 28-31 December by members of the border guard who are in charge of checking travelers.

The government’s COBRA emergency response committee will meet later on Monday to discuss details of how to manage the multiple strikes that have been called before, during and after the holidays by many sectors of workers.

Within the week starting today there will be strikes by workers in the rail, NHS, Eurostar, buses, National Highways, baggage handling at Heathrow, Royal Mail, government services and teachers will also be on strike. driving.
