The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack on a hotel frequented by Chinese businessmen in central Kabul, the jihadist group announced on its Telegram channel.
Gunmen opened fire today at around 2:30 local time inside the hotel and at least three gunmen were killed by security forces.
The Kabul Emergency Hospital, which is run by an Italian non-profit organization, said it had received 21 victims – 18 injured and three dead.
The group said two of its members “attacked a large hotel frequented by Chinese diplomats and businessmen in Kabul, where they detonated two explosive devices hidden in two bags”, one targeting a party for Chinese guests and the other the venue reception. One of the two fighters threw grenades at Taliban officers who were trying to stop them, while the other began detonating explosive devices stuck to hotel room doors and shooting hotel guests, Islamic State said in a statement.
