“Measures implemented by the government at the behest of the president to ensure economic growth despite international pressures have shown their effectiveness, making it possible to maintain fiscal stability, as well as strengthen sectors of vital importance and above all our people,” Mishustin said at an expert committee meeting.

Western countries tried to destroy the Russian economy but underestimated its resilience, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said today.

“Measures implemented by the government at the behest of the president to ensure economic growth despite international pressures have shown their effectiveness, making it possible to maintain fiscal stability, as well as strengthen sectors of vital importance and above all our people,” Mishustin said at an expert committee meeting.

The Russian economy is still adjusting to the current challenges and although there is a recession, the situation is better compared to many other countries, he argued.

The Russian Ministry of Development predicted an inevitable GDP contraction in 2022 of less than 3%, underlining that the worst possible scenario had been avoided.

The recovery in industrial production continues, fixed capital investment is rising, the unemployment rate remains below 4 percent and inflation in November fell below 12 percent year-on-year, according to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
