According to the ‘Nordic Model’, productivity is estimated to increase if working hours are reduced – Workers’ earnings are not threatened
Spain is launching a pilot program to help small and medium-sized industries reduce the working week at least by half a day without threatening wages, in an effort to boost productivity.
Companies seeking this support must plan ways to increase their productivity in order to compensate for excesses in wage costs, the Ministry of Industry said in a statement today, presenting the program of 10 million euros.
These improvements should be implemented internally one yearwhile the company should maintain the program for at least two years.
The debate about the so-called ‘Nordic model’, on the basis of which it is estimated that productivity will increase if working hours are reduced, it’s nothing new but the idea started to become more popular among companies, politicians and public sector bodies during the Covid-19 crisis.
