The report is estimated to include 1,000 pages based on approximately 1,200 interviews and decisions taken by 60 federal and state courts.
The congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 mob invasion of the US Capitol announced Wednesday that it will delay for at least a day the release of its final report outlining the case in which former President Donald Trump should face criminal charges for inciting deadly violence.
The Special Committee of the House of Representatives announced that it expects to release the report today. Thursday.
The report, expected to be made public online, is estimated to include 1,000 pages based on approximately 1,200 interviews over 18 months, as well as the processing of hundreds of thousands of documents, as well as decisions made by 60 federal and state courts.
The report lists 17 findings of special interest, describes the legal fallout from the actions of Trump and some of his associates, and contains criminal referrals to Trump’s Justice Department and other individuals, according to a special summary of the available material released Monday.
The same report also includes legislative recommendations to prevent another attack on the US Capitol.
On Monday, the commission asked federal prosecutors to indict the Republican former president on four counts, including obstruction of justice and inciting insurrection, related to efforts to overturn the November 2020 election that sparked the attack on the Capitol.
“Instead of honoring his constitutional obligation and ‘seeing to the faithful application of the laws,’ President Trump conspired to overturn the outcome of the election,” the House committee said in a summary of the 160-page report.
Trump delivered a stormy speech to supporters near the White House on the morning of Jan. 6, publicly rebuking Vice President Mike Pence for not following his plan for rejecting the election result in favor of Democrat Joe Biden.
The former president then waited hours before making a public announcement as thousands of his angry supporters stormed the Capitol, attacking police and threatening to hang Pence.
