By a vote of 68 to 29, senators voted in favor of the $1.7 trillion federal budget just three days before Christmas.

Parliament is expected to approve the bill later today. The budget is the last major piece of legislation being considered by Congress as it is currently constituted. As of January, Republicans will control the House while the Senate will remain in Democratic hands.

The final draft of the budget should reach Joe Biden’s desk by midnight on Friday.

“There are so many good things in the bill that it’s hard to take them all out,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

“We ended this Conference, one of the most disruptive in decades, with one of the best packages in decades.”
