US meteorologists are warning of life-threatening weather conditions, calling it a “once in a generation” phenomenon.
Nearly 177 million Americans – more than half of the US population – will spend the Christmas days in polar cold. The country’s Meteorological Service has warned of temperature drops to dangerous levels in a large part of the country.
The ongoing “bomb cyclone” is bringing unprecedented snowfall and blizzards, especially in the Midwestern states.
The weather event will affect nearly every state: More than 200 million people from the East Coast to the West Coast and from the Canadian border to the Mexican border are on alert.
US meteorologists are warning of life-threatening weather conditions, calling it a “once in a generation” phenomenon.
The temperatures are shocking: temperatures below -50 degrees have already been recorded in parts of Montana, South Dakota and Wyoming.
Unprecedented weather conditions threaten to ruin Americans’ vacation plans as there is a high risk of long flight delays. Flight cancellations on Thursday topped 1,000 nationwide.

Snowfall conditions and frost on the roads also prohibits road travel.
Roads along the Colorado-Wyoming border have been closed since Wednesday due to near-zero visibility.
In South Dakota, more than 100 cars were stranded on snow-covered roads, prompting emergency rescue operations.
The airport in the state capital was also closed.
Even warm Florida, the “Sunshine State,” is expected to see its coldest Christmas in 30 years.
