Kouleba underlined that the issue of Russia’s permanent seat in the UN Security Council is already being discussed in diplomatic circles.
Ukraine is going to request Russia’s expulsion from the position of a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council today, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said yesterday, Sunday.
“Tomorrow (Monday) we will officially express our position. We have a very simple question: does Russia have the right to remain a permanent member of the UN Security Council and to be in the UN?” he said late on Christmas night during a national telethon.
“We have a convincing and well-argued answer: no, it doesn’t.”
Kouleba underlined that the issue of Russia’s permanent seat in the UN Security Council – the US, Britain, France and China are also permanent members – is already being discussed in diplomatic circles.
Clarifying that this issue has not yet been mentioned in press conferences and public statements by heads of state and government, the head of Ukrainian diplomacy argued that “at a lower level, people are already raising the question of what should be done with Russia in order to not be a threat to peace and security.”
