Rwanda’s government said today that a Democratic Republic of Congo fighter jet had violated its airspace, amid escalating tensions between Kigali and Kinshasa in the wake of a rebel offensive in eastern DR Congo.
The government spokesman’s statement specifically states that “an Su-25 fighter jet of the Democratic Republic of Congo violated Rwandan airspace along Lake Kivu around 12 noon.” The fighter jet immediately returned to DR Congo, according to the same source.
