Panel SA: Shopkeepers point to weak sales at Christmas

by

While the associations that represent mall tenants are still gathering data on Christmas sales late this year, estimates point to a weak sales period.

Sector businessmen claim that their results should be between 5% above the level of December last year or 5% below, with occasional cases of superior performance.

The best numbers should be concentrated in product brands with a lower average ticket, between R$50 and R$60 per unit price, such as jewelry, cosmetics and the like, according to a businessman.

According to Viktor Ljubtschenko, director of the network of pajamas and underwear stores Any Any, Christmas sales in physical stores tied with the result for 2021. “In ecommerce, we grew 5%, but the average ticket fell by about 10%. retail does not have great prospects”, he says.

Andrea Duca, director of the Gregory women’s clothing chain, calculates a more expressive increase online.

According to the most up-to-date data from the ACSP (commercial association), which cover only the first half of December, real growth was 2.6% in sales compared to the same period last year. Compared to 2019, the variation is 2.4%.
