Turkey today condemned the participation of French politicians in a demonstration in Paris against the killing of three Kurds, at a rally where protesters unfurled Turkish flags. Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Clashes erupted last week between police and Kurdish protesters angry over the killing of three members of their community in a gun attack on Friday.
Some protesters held flags of the PKK, designated a terrorist organization by Turkey, the EU and the US, as well as posters of their jailed leader, Abdullah Ocalan.
THE Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu protested the gathering in a conversation he had with his French counterpart, Katrin Colonna, the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced.
“Minister ÇavuÅŸoÄŸlu… emphasized that it is unacceptable for French politicians to attend events (demonstrations) where flags of the PKK terrorist organization are flying (…). He stressed that France should not allow such activities,” the ministry said.
Turkey announced on Monday that it had summoned France’s ambassador to denounce the “involvement of French government officials and politicians in anti-Turkish propaganda.”
The French government has asked police to step up protection of Kurdish community sites after the killings, Interior Minister Gérald Darmanen said on Friday. President Emmanuel Macron said the Kurds were the target of a “heinous” attack.
