A man has been sentenced to death in northern Iran for his part in the protests that have rocked the country since the death of Mahsha Amini.
The court sentenced Arsia Takdastan to death for “corruption on Earth” and “war against God” (“moharebeh” under Islamic law), Mizan Online reported.
Takdastan was accused of “leading the crowd in the central square of the city of Nosar and committing serious criminal acts during riots.”
Judicial authorities have not specified when Takdastan was arrested or his age.
Since the beginning of the protest movement in September, following the death of Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini after she was arrested by morality police for not wearing her headscarf properly, Iranian authorities have sentenced 14 people to death.
Of these, two have been executed, while the Supreme Court has upheld the sentence of four others. Six are awaiting a new trial and two more, including Takdastan, may appeal.
Iranian authorities have announced that hundreds of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed and thousands arrested.
