State television showed two snapshots of Putin at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary attending midnight mass.

The Russian Orthodox Church supports the invasion of Ukraine. Patriarch Kirill appealed on Thursday for a 36-hour truce to celebrate Christmas in Russia and Ukraine. Russia’s president ordered a unilateral ceasefire, which the Ukrainian government rejected.
