A Russian missile strike hit infrastructure in Kyiv this morning while explosions were heard in the Dnipro district of the Ukrainian capital, a senior Ukrainian presidential official and the city’s mayor said.

Reuters reporters heard a series of explosions in Kyiv before air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv. Officials told residents to seek shelter.

“Missile attack against critical infrastructure facilities. The details are being checked,” said Kirylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the Ukrainian presidency’s office.

The military administration of Kyiv said that an infrastructure installation was affected, without giving any other information.

“Explosions in the Dnipro region. All services are directed to the spot. “Stay in your shelters!” Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram.

He said that fragments of a rocket fell in a place without houses in the Kholosivsky district, in the western part of Kiev.

According to the authorities in Kyiv, apart from the Ukrainian capital, Russian missile attacks also took place in other areas, including Kharkiv and Zaporizhia, as reported by the German news agency dpa.

An apartment building was also hit in the Kyiv region, according to the presidency’s office, but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

According to the office of the Ukrainian presidency, it was the first major missile attacks since the beginning of the new year.

Meanwhile, the governor of Cherkasy region in central Ukraine warned citizens that Russia could launch a massive missile strike later today and called on residents to rush to shelters when air raid sirens sound.
