Shock in Britain: A policeman confessed to raping women for eighteen years

David Carrick, 48, confessed to 24 rapes between 2003 and 2020, making him one of the worst sex offenders in the country’s history

British society has been shocked by the confession of a 48-year-old serving London police officer, who pleaded guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault and rape against women over an 18-year period.

Following the confession of David Carrick – who was arrested in 2021 for an act of violence and today pleaded guilty to 49 charges, including 24 rapes, between 2003 and 2020 – he automatically becomes one of the worst sex offenders in British history.

Carrick met the women on dating apps or at social events. He assured them that he was safe with him and that they could trust him by showing them his police ID. Then he drove her to his house.

His crimes were committed from 2003 to 2020 and most in his home state of Hertfordshire.

The 48-year-old confessed to raping nine women, some multiple times over the course of months or years, and many of those attacks involved violence that caused them injury.

London’s Metropolitan Police today apologized, saying it should have identified the abusive behavior of Carrick, who was suspended as an armed police officer, when he was arrested in October 2021.

Following his confession, London’s Metropolitan Police suspended his pay and launched an internal administrative investigation, with a hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

London’s Metropolitan Police, which has implemented “special measures” following a series of scandals over the past year, said Carrick abused his power as a police officer to commit horrific crimes.

Commissioner Mark Rowley has been appointed head of London’s police force to clean up the force and has vowed to sack officers who are corrupt, racist and have broken the law.

An independent inquiry into London’s Metropolitan Police in October ruled that “radical” reform was needed into the way the force handles allegations of misconduct by hundreds of its staff and officers.

The inquiry was ordered in 2021 after an officer was jailed for life for the rape and murder of Sarah Everard.
