Qatargate: Antonio Panzeri withdrew his appeal – He remains in custody

Antonio Pancheri will remain in custody until approximately the middle of February, when the request for his release will be reviewed by the Pre-Trial Council.

H Brussels Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced today that the alleged mastermind of the Qatar-Morocco corruption scandal (Qatargate)in the European Parliament, Pier Antonio Pancheri, was to appear before him today Brussels Court of Appealbut it didn’t appear because withdrew the appeal which he had brought against the indictment.

Specifically, the Press Release of the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office states the following:

“As part of a wide-ranging investigation conducted by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office regarding alleged acts of organized crime, corruption and money laundering, P.P. He was due to appear before the indictment today at the Court of Appeal in Brussels. For his own reasons, P.P. decided today to abandon his appeal before the indictment. So he didn’t show up. In the interest of the investigation, no further information will be released at this time. The press will be informed of new developments with a press release.”

According to the representative of the Prosecutor’s Office who spoke to AMPE, Antonio Pancheri he will remain in custody until approximately mid-Februarywhen the pre-trial Council (Chambre du Conseil) will review his release request.

It is recalled that on December 14, the Pre-Trial Council had decided on the temporary pre-trial detention of Antonio Panzeri for one month, who then decided to exercise his right of appeal. His case was due to be heard by the Brussels Court of Appeal today, but Pancheri announced that he was withdrawing the appeal.
