by

The British Ministry of Defense has not recorded an arrival by sea of irregular migrants since January 2, when 44 people crossed the English Channel to reach Britain.

Refugee and migrant flows in the English Channel have been zero for two weeks, the longest period without new arrivals in Britain since last April.

The British Ministry of Defense has not recorded an arrival by sea of irregular migrants since January 2, when 44 people crossed the English Channel to reach Britain.

The previous record was 13 days with zero migration flows (March 29-April 10, 2022). The previous one was 11 days (November 15-25, 2022).

Government officials have pointed out, however, that any decrease in migratory flows in the winter is merely a seasonal phenomenon, estimating that they will increase again from the spring.

According to another report published today, 73 cases of diphtheria among asylum seekers have been reported in England. However, no new cases have been reported since the start of the year, according to figures from the UK Public Health Safety Agency (UKHSA) as of 15 January.

Asylum seekers who have shown symptoms of the highly contagious disease are being quarantined, amid a rise in infections among irregular migrants in Britain.

However, the British health authorities still appear reassuring, underlining that the risk of diphtheria cases spreading in the community remains very low.
