The Russian leader has claimed that Moscow’s actions in Ukraine are intended to end a “war” that has been raging in eastern Ukraine for years
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited an arms manufacturing plant in St. Petersburg today and said, among other things, that he has “no doubt” that a Russian victory in Ukraine is “inevitable.”
“As for the achievement of the final result and the victory that is inevitable, many things contribute … It is the unity and cohesion of the Russian and multinational Russian people, the courage and heroism of our fighters … and of course the work of military industrial complex and factories like yours and people like you. The victory is certain, I have no doubt about it” said the Russian president, addressing the factory workers.
The Russian leader claimed that Moscow’s actions in Ukraine are intended to stop a “war” that has been raging in eastern Ukraine for many years. He said Russia has long sought to negotiate a settlement to the conflict in Ukraine’s Donbas, where Moscow-backed separatists have been fighting Ukrainian forces since 2014.
“Large-scale combat operations involving heavy weapons, artillery, tanks and aircraft have not stopped in Donbas since 2014. All we are doing today, as part of the special military operation, is an attempt to stop this war. This is the meaning of our operation – the protection of the people living in these areas,” said Vladimir Putin.
At the same time, he argued that sending troops to Ukraine on February 24 last year was necessary to protect Russian-speakers and carry out “demilitarization” and “de-Nazification” of Ukraine to prevent the threat of Russia.
Also referring to the Russian economy he said that “the real dynamics turned out to be better than many experts predicted. According to the Ministry of Economic Development, Russia’s GDP in the period January-November 2022 decreased but ‘only’ by 2.1%. “Some experts in our country, not to mention foreigners, predicted a decrease of 10% and 15% or even 20%. For the year as a whole, it is expected to decrease by 2.5%,” he added.
