Russia: Wagner founder accuses Putin associates of treason

The founder of Wagner, whose mercenaries are fighting alongside the Russian army in Ukraine, also claimed that Moscow would soon impose a ban on the YouTube platform, as he has repeatedly called for.

The head of the Russian mercenary organization Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin today accused Kremlin officials of treason. They were pretending to be with (Russian president) Putin, but in reality they were obstructing military operations, looking for a quick end (of the war) to satisfy US orders in the event of Russia’s defeat, Prigozhin claimed.

The founder of Wagner, whose mercenaries are fighting alongside the Russian army in Ukraine, also claimed that Moscow would soon impose a ban on the YouTube platform, as he has repeatedly called for.

“YouTube is a scourge for information in our time,” Prigozhin pointed out.

So far, the popular social media platform has not been banned in Russia — unlike Twitter, Instagram and Facebook — “because there are many officials (in the Kremlin) who think of only one thing: that Russia should lose war as soon as possible,” he claimed.

They are “traitors of the people and their country,” Prigozhin said, adding that “Wagner’s sledgehammer” would await them, referring to a recent video purportedly showing the killing of a deserting mercenary. According to Wagner, the mercenary had voluntarily surrendered to Ukrainian forces but then returned to Russia, where he was beaten to death with a sledgehammer.

The German News Agency (dpa) points out that for many Russians who express discomfort with the manipulation of public opinion through public television propaganda, YouTube is one of the last sources of free access to a wide range of information sources.
