“Consent of allies is required,” says new defense minister without giving details on when decision on surrender will be made

Agreement by the Allies is required in order for Germany to give the “green light” for the delivery of Leopard tanks to Ukraine as stated by the new German Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, displeasing with this decision Kyiv who expects a quick decision on the matter.

“There are good reasons for surrenders and there are good reasons against … and considering the whole situation in a war that has been going on for almost a year, all the pros and cons have to be weighed very carefully,” said Pistorius.

He even said that he cannot say when there will be a decision on surrender of tanks, but stressed that Germany was ready to move quickly if there was consensus among the allies.

Chancellor Olaf Solz’s government appeared reluctant to approve the re-export of the tanks for fear of provoking Russia. Some Western officials have also expressed concern that Russia might seize advanced Western weapons and steal its technology.
