The legendary astronaut announced on social media that he married his sweetheart, who is 30 years his junior
Buzz Aldrin is an American engineer and former astronaut. He was the second man to walk on the Moon, as a member of the Apollo 11 mission, the first manned mission to reach the surface of the Moon.
Just before Neil Armstrong left to walk on the Moon, Buzz Aldrin asked for a few minutes of silence and read a passage from the Gospel of John. After they parted, Armstrong stepped onto the surface of the Moon after 2 a.m. on July 21. And 19 minutes later Buzz Aldrin became the second man to walk on the Moon, with a record of staying outside the lunar surface, which record was broken by the Apollo 14 mission. Buzz Aldrin’s first words on the Moon were: “Beautiful view. Wonderful wilderness.”
He was born on January 20, 1930 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. His mother’s last name, Marion Gandys, nee Moon, will be considered significant when Buzz Aldrin steps on the Moon in the future, as “moon” in English means Moon. His ancestry is Scottish, Swedish and German and he was a boy scout.
On my 93rd birthday & the day I will also be honored by Living Legends of Aviation I am pleased to announce that my longtime love Dr. Anca Faur & I have tied the knot. Legendary astronaut Buzz Aldrin announced on social media that he married his sweetheart, who is 30 years his junior.
“On my 93rd birthday & the day I will also be honored by the Living Legends of Aviation I am pleased to announce that my longtime love, Dr. Anca Faur, and I are united in the holy bonds of matrimony. We are as excited as teenagers…”, he says in his post.
His wife of 63 years works as executive vice president of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC. He has a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and was at one time treasurer of the California Hydrogen Business Council.
Buzz Aldrin has been married and divorced three times in the past, to Joan Ann Archer from 1954 to 1974, Beverly Van Zile from 1975 to 1978, and Lois Driggs Cannon from 1988 to 2012.
The second man to walk on the Moon has three children, one grandchild and 4 great-grandchildren. He retired from NASA in 1971 and in 1998 founded the ShareSpace Foundation, a non-profit organization to promote the expansion of human space exploration.
After entering the world of history book writing, he had confided that he went through a dark period when he didn’t know what to do with his life. He struggled with depression and alcoholism, but has now been sober for more than 40 years.
In 2002, Buzz Aldrin escaped assault charges after punching a man who demanded he swear on a Bible that the moon landing was not staged.
Five years ago he also sued two of his children and his former business manager, Christina Korp, alleging they stole money from him and defamed him by implying he had dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. He withdrew the lawsuit in 2019 after his two children withdrew their petition seeking administration of his estate.
In 2007, Aldrin stated that he had recently had a facelift, joking that the g-forces he was exposed to in space had caused him various problems.
