“Ukrainian forces retreated in order to redeploy to positions they had prepared”
The Ukrainian army admitted today that it had abandoned the eastern city of Solentar, two weeks after Moscow announced its capture.
“After months of hard fighting (…) Ukrainian forces abandoned it in order to fall back to positions they had prepared,” the military spokesman for the eastern zone, Serhii Tserevati, told AFP, refusing to specify when the retreat took place.

In videos published by Ukrainian media, the city is seen flattened by the months-long and deadly fighting.

The Russian army and Wagner’s mercenaries announced almost two weeks ago that they had captured Soledar, a strategically important town near Bahamut. Kyiv has denied that claim, saying Ukrainian forces are still fighting in the western part of the city.
