The announcement is consistent with the administration’s “commitments to provide at least 60 days’ notice to end” the national health emergency, the Office of Management and Budget said.

US President Joe Biden’s administration announced on Monday that it will end the national health emergency declared three years ago on May 11, 2023, allowing sweeping measures to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus.

The state of national emergency and the state of national health emergency were declared in 2020, by the administration of then President Donald Trump. Mr. Biden has repeatedly extended the measures. It was decided that they would be removed in May.

The US President’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) clarified that these measures will be extended until May 11 and then lifted.

The announcement is consistent with the government’s “commitments to provide at least 60 days’ notice to end” the national health emergency, OMB said.

In a separate statement, the agency said Mr. Biden would veto a bill filed in Congress to repeal mandatory vaccinations for workers in federal health facilities or programs.
