The train drivers’ strike in England is causing the cancellation of all the routes of 14 major railway companies for another day today. The itineraries of four more major companies will be reduced, with the last ones running before 7pm.

This is the second rail strike in a week after the one on Wednesday.

Today’s strike is being led mainly by the 1,200 members of the main train drivers’ union, Aslef, but also by around 200 members of Britain’s biggest transport union, the RMT.

Their demand is for bigger increases amid high inflation, a demand that has led them to frequent strike action over the past three months.

However, the head of the Rail Delivery Group Steve Montgomery, which represents rail companies in Britain, said that after the latest negotiations with unions there was now basic hope of a deal that would end regular strikes.

Also on strike today are 1,900 bus drivers serving south and west London, as well as teachers, court workers and civil servants in Scotland.

Next Monday, the 6th of the month, the largest strike to date by various branches of workers in the national health service NHS is expected. The members of the nursing staff of the public hospitals and the members of the staff of the ambulance service enter the dance of mobilizations again. Physiotherapists and midwives in Wales will go on strike on Tuesday.
