George Santos also lied about producing Spider-Man musical, says agency

The long list of lies by George Santos about his own resume gained one more item — that of producer of Broadway musicals. The Bloomberg news agency revealed this Friday (3) that the parliamentarian told potential donors that he had worked on the musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark”, which the show’s producer denies.

The musical, which ran from 2011 to 2014, is considered the most expensive production in Broadway history, with a budget of US$ 75 million, a soundtrack signed by members of U2 and aerial combat scenes. The show was, however, an utter flop, and lost large sums to technical problems and injured actors.

Producer at the head of “Spider-Man”, Michael Cohl denied the deputy’s involvement in the musical through an assistant. Santos’ spokeswoman forwarded the request for comment on the report to the congressman’s lawyer, Joseph W. Murray, who also did not return contact from the agency.

Elected in November, Santos acknowledged having deceived voters about his educational and professional background, saying his only sin was having “embellished” his curriculum. Santos was sworn in despite colleagues calling for investigations into his behavior and Republican leaders in New York calling for his resignation. With the opening of investigations, prosecutors have indicated that they are keeping an eye on Santos.

There is also an accusation that he would have sent emails to supporters offering visits to Congress in exchange for “donations” of up to US$ 500 – which is not allowed by the rules of the House.

In Brazil, the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rio de Janeiro decided to reopen a case for embezzlement, which was suspended because authorities were unable to locate him. The action now runs in secrecy
