“Canada supports this action. We will continue to work together, including within NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), for our security and defense,” Trudeau said in a tweet.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday expressed his government’s support for Washington’s decision to shoot down the Chinese spy balloon “which violated US airspace and international law.”

“Canada supports this action. We will continue to work together, including within NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command), for our security and defense,” Trudeau said in a tweet.

Defense Minister Anita Anand said for her part that she and Prime Minister Trudeau were briefed on the operation by the National Security Adviser and the Chief of the National Defense Staff. The Canadian government fully supports the measures taken, he stressed, thanking Washington for their close cooperation.

The Chinese spy balloon had flown over Canada before entering United States airspace.
