Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been invited to participate in “a future summit” of the “27”, a spokesman for European Council President Charles Michel said today, without further details, while sources said he might arrive in Brussels on Thursday.
Charles Michel “invited (Volodymyr) Zelenskiy to attend a future (EU) summit in person. For security reasons, no information will be disclosed,” tweeted Barent Leitch, a spokesman for the European leader.

Zelensky may speak in person before MEPs: a source in the European Parliament spoke of “the possibility of holding an extraordinary session of the plenary session on Thursday 9 February in the presence of Volodymyr Zelensky”.
Two other parliamentary sources confirmed this information, asking not to be named.
The Ukrainian leader has a “permanent invitation” to Brussels, his spokesman Charles Michel was content to say earlier today.
The Ukrainian presidency has not confirmed this trip to Brussels either, which raises security concerns.
Zelensky went to Washington on December 22 for his first trip abroad since the start of the war. There he met with US President Joe Biden and addressed Congress.
An emergency summit of European leaders is planned for Thursday and Friday in Brussels, to discuss, mainly, the development of the war in Ukraine and the EU’s solidarity with Kyiv.
Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other high-ranking European representatives met Friday in Kyiv with Zelensky to show their support for Ukraine’s EU accession process.
The country is officially a candidate for membership from June 2022, a painstaking process that requires many reforms that could take years, but which Kyiv hopes to speed up.
Ukraine also receives financial support from the EU, which has already pledged €50 billion, including humanitarian and military aid.
