The panic that lived inside the cabin of one Qatar Airways Dreamliner aircraftwhich lost altitude sharply after taking off from Doha, a veteran air traffic controller described.

People were “vomiting and screaming,” said Lucas Andersson, an air traffic controller of 20 years, who happened to be a passenger on flight QR161 from Doha to Copenhagen on January 10.

According to takeoff footage from Flightradar24.com, the aircraft came within 850 feet of the water – or 17 seconds – having initially climbed to 1,850 feet.

The 43-year-old air traffic controller, who was traveling with his wife, two boys and his sister’s family, said: “After about 70 seconds of flying, suddenly there was a loud noise as the plane banked. downwards. Passengers started screaming throughout the cabin, and a man in front of my sister even vomited, so there’s no way this sudden ‘plunge’ went unnoticed.”

He continued: “The first thing I did was look out the window to try and see how high we were, but it was dark. My youngest son next to me was terrified so I tried to stay calm for his sake. Then it occurred to me that we were going to crash. Being in the airline industry, I know how critical the take-off phase is and the descent at such a high rate. It was very scary.”

After the plane’s terrifying descent, several asked the flight attendants what caused it, but no explanation was given.
