2022 Putin speech canceled due to Russian military attack on Ukraine – Will Putin announce new major attack on Ukraine?
The Russian president Vladimir Putin will address the Russian people on February 21, that is, three days before the first anniversary of the Russian army’s invasion of Ukraine, the Kremlin announced today, Friday.
“On February 21, the president of the Russian Federation will address the Federal Assembly” (which consists of the State Duma (lower house) and the Federation Council (upper house)”), Russian President Dmitry Peskov’s spokesman told reporters, adding that the speech would address “the current situation”, including the Russian military intervention in Ukraine and the socio-economic situation in Russia.
Peskov said the speech would be held at Gostiny Dvor, a conference hall near Red Square in central Moscow.
Vladimir Putin traditionally delivers an annual State of the Nation Address to Russian lawmakers, in which he reviews the past year and sets out new strategic directions. However in 2022, the speech was cancelled due to the attack of the Russian army in Ukraine.
Today Dmitry Peskov said that Russian military personnel participating in operations in Ukraine will “definitely” be invited to the February 21 speech. To the question, whether foreign journalists will be accredited in the room where the Russian president will address the speech, the representative of the Kremlin said: “At the moment there is no such decision, we will inform.”
The question now is whether Vladimir Putin will actually make the announcement new major attack in Ukraine, as has been heard strongly lately.
