References to incidents of looting in various areas affected by the major earthquakes were made by the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Speaking about the looting, the Turkish president emphasized that this was one of the reasons a state of emergency was declared in the 10 provinces of SE Turkey.
“The state will have the possibility to intervene in these lootings with the powers that the state of emergency will provide,” he said. “The state will also have the ability to intervene against all moneylenders and groups that take advantage of the situation in Turkey,” Erdogan added.
