Elections in Cyprus – Anastasiadis: I will be present, always discreetly – the majority decides and the minority respects

The outgoing President of the Republic of Cyprus emphasized that whoever is elected we should surround him with love and trust

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, accompanied by his wife and their grandchildren, exercised his right to vote for the second round of the Presidential Elections at the Laniteo Lyceum, Center A, in Limassol today.

After exercising his right to vote, President Anastasiades, in his statements to the media and asked if he will be on the side of whoever is elected President of the Republic, said that “this is the duty of each of us. Today, the people decide who will be the next President. We should surround him, whoever he is, with love and trust and where everyone can contribute so that he succeeds in his work.

This is our duty. And if it’s something I want, it’s to repeat what the rules of democracy dictate. The people decide, the majority decides and the minority respects.

To call the people en masse to participate in this electoral process. We have said it many times, regardless of the feelings that anyone has should exercise their electoral right and duty, if you will, to democracy, unaffected, based on their own criteria.

Asked if a new cycle is opening for him, President Anastasiades said that “it is not a matter of opening another cycle. I will be present, always discreetly, and where and where my intervention is needed will be in a positive direction and not a negative one”.

Asked to comment on Ms. Kaitis Clerides’ statement yesterday about corruption, President Anastasiades said that “I don’t want to comment on obscenities. I don’t want to comment on what others have tried to pass on to the people. There should be mutual respect. I don’t want to say anything more.”

To a journalist’s remark that he speaks with bitterness, President Anastasiades said “and of course with bitterness. Is it ever possible that because you bear a name you should not even honor it.’
