A video showing the sledgehammer execution of a Russian ex-mercenary who deserted her mercenary group Wagner while fighting in Ukraine, took to social media today.

In the video, which was posted on Telegram’s Gray Zone network linked to the Russian paramilitary group, a man says his name is Dmitry Yakushenkois 44, was born in Crimea and left prison before joining Wagner.

“I was planning to find some loophole, as they say to pop it,” he says, adding that “it’s not my war” and that he plans to quit.

According to Gray Zone, this man was later arrested in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro.

Yakushenko’s case is the same as that of Yevgeny Nuchin, another renegade mercenary who was executed in the same way and the video was posted last November.

In the visual, subtitled: “Video from the treason trial,” Yakushenko is seen with his head stuck to a wall of brickswhile an unknown person in camouflage uniform stands behind him holding a sledgehammer.

Looking towards the camera, Yakushenko in a seated position says his name and year of birth.

“I was on the streets of the city of Dnipro where I got hit on the head and passed out, I woke up in this room and they told me I was going to be tried,” he says.

After that, the person standing behind him picks up the sledgehammer and hits him on the head with it. At this point, the picture blurs.

There is a loud thud and Yakushenko falls to the floor. The man in the camouflage uniform raises the sledgehammer again.

A caption then appears on the video that reads: “Meeting adjourned.” Reuters was not immediately able to authenticate the video.
