The Munich Airportthe second largest in Germany, announced today that it will all flights are canceled on Fridaydue to a strike mobilization of his staff, with salary demands.

“Due to the strike (…) there will be no scheduled flights from midnight on Friday until 1 am on Saturday,” the airport’s operating company said. In total, more than 700 passenger aircraft arrivals and departures were scheduled which will not take place.

They will come true only certain “special” flights, for “humanitarian, medical or technical” reasons, as well as those transporting participants to the Munich Security Summit, a political-diplomatic international “rendezvous” with the participation of many leaders, which will be held in this city from Friday to Sunday .

The Verdi union has called a strike by workers at seven of Germany’s biggest airports as negotiations over wage increases continue. Frankfurt Airport predicted “disruption” to services and advised passengers to avoid going there.

The strike also affects the airports of Bremen, Dortmund, Hamburg, Hanover and Stuttgart.

Unions and employers are negotiating wage increases for airport ground staff and security staff, with the former asking to cover workers’ loss of purchasing power due to higher inflation. Last month Verdi went on strike at Berlin airport, causing around 300 flights to be canceled or rescheduled.
