Rescuers pulled a 12-year-old boy alive from the rubble of a collapsed building in Hatay province late Thursday night, 260 hours after the 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook the southeast Turkey.

Despite the slim hopes of finding survivors, ten days after the earthquake hit, rescue crews and volunteers do not give up their efforts in the earthquake-stricken areas.

This persistence was rewarded with the rescue of 12-year-old Osman Halebige, the boy who was rescued in the Ekinci district and rushed to a hospital, according to Anadolu Agency.

Earlier, 29-year-old Neslihan Kilic was pulled alive from the ruins, 258 hours after the two earthquakes that wreaked havoc in Turkey and Syria.

“Thank God my sister survived. They say she was conscious, but we haven’t been able to see her yet,” Yusuf Yalginoz said.

Doctor Mohamed Semih Gedik who examined the 29-year-old said that the girl called out her name and asked to know the fate of her relatives. He assured that her condition is stable.

Based on the latest official provisional tally by the Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD), 38,044 people have died in Turkey so far. In total, the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria are more than 42,000.
