THE Russia launched at 2/24/2023 one rescue spaceshipfor two cosmonauts and one NASA astronautwhose initial attempt to return did not take place, due to a dangerous leak the vessel suffered while it was parked in International Space Station.

The rescue boat Soyuz is expected to return, with the crew, on Sunday.

The initial leak of the first boat, earlier this month, was attributed to one micrometeorite where punctured external radiatordraining it from the coolant.

THE Russian Space Agency delayed the launch of the replacement Soyuz, looking for any manufacturing defects to be sure of the mission’s success. No problems were found and the agency proceeded to launch the craft from Kazakhstan on Friday 2/24 before dawn with bundles of supplies tied to the three posts.

Given the urgency of this mission, two top NASA officials traveled from the US to personally witness the launch. To everyone’s relief, the craft arrived safely in orbit nine minutes after liftoff — “a perfect path to orbit,” said Rob Navias of NASA’s Mission Control in Houston.

The original damaged Soyuz craft will return to Earth without anyone on board by the end of March so engineers can examine it.
