New measures to deal with the explosion of Covid-19 cases, France has taken, as with the Omicron variant dominates the country.
From Monday, children must wear a mask from the age of 6 (compared to 11 years ago) on transport, ships, planes and vehicles (including taxis), as well as at train stations, public stations transport and airports, according to a decree published on New Year’s Eve in the Government Gazette.
In addition, from Monday and “until January 23, 2022, the sale and service for consumption of food and beverages in transport is prohibited, during the routes”, the text clarifies. The decree does not give further details on consumption during the voyage, except that the restaurants of the ships are not affected.
The decree also confirms a government announcement that restaurants and pubs will not be able to accommodate people from Monday until January 23, “unless customers are seated”. Children there should wear a mask from the age of 6 and not more than 11 years old.
Many departments or cities, such as the Paris or Lyon district, announced the return of compulsory street mask use on Friday.
