The foreign ministers of Russia and China criticized Western countries on the sidelines of the G20 summit today, accusing them of using “blackmail and threats” to impose their views, according to Russian diplomacy.

During their conversation on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, which is being held in New Delhi, Russian Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese Qin Gang “unanimously rejected attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and to impose unilateral approaches through blackmail and threats“, the Russian diplomacy said in a statement.

At the same time, the two ministers expressed their “satisfaction” regarding the rapid development of bilateral political dialogue and cooperation” between Moscow and Beijing.

They also referred to the situation in Ukraine, “including the position of Chinese diplomacy on the political settlement” of the crisis.

“On all the issues discussed we observed a high level of convergence and correspondence of our positions,” the Russian Foreign Ministry statement concluded.

Last Friday, Beijing released a 12-point text, in which it mainly asked Moscow and Kiev to hold peace talks.

Meanwhile the Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez estimated that Russia is “not ready” to accept the references to Ukraine of the joint communique of the session.

“After the speech of the Russian foreign minister, I do not believe that Russia is ready to accept an acceptable announcement,” commented Albares speaking to reporters.
