Dengue alert marked in Ibizaafter two cases occurred.

Spanish health authorities have issued a warning regarding the risk of new dengue cases in Ibiza between the months of May and November, so tourists flock to the island.

The warning follows the confirmation of two cases of the disease in German tourists who visited the cosmopolitan island in the last months of last year.

However, the Health and Emergency Coordination Center under Spain’s Ministry of Health has classified the imminent risk as “moderate”.

For now, authorities say the risk of dengue fever is low in Ibiza. However, from May to November, the risk is likely to be upgraded to ‘moderate’ and local authorities are to inform the population and increase vigilance.

On Wednesday, German health authorities notified Spain of two dengue cases – one confirmed and one probable – as well as for four cases with compatible symptoms of dengue fever.

Spain’s health ministry said a person who allegedly contracted dengue in Mexico appears that he was “patient zero”, as he lived in the same area of Ibiza as the two German families, members of which fell ill.
