The Portuguese authorities confiscated 3.7 tons of hemp which had been loaded onto a speedboat in an operation they were conducting in international waters south of it Portugalduring which they arrested two Spaniards and two Moroccans, the National Maritime Authority (AMN) announced today.

THEarrests of the four suspected smugglers were made during a surveillance operation carried out by the Portuguese navy, maritime police and air force, from Tuesday night to the early hours of today, AMN said in a statement.

The vessel, which was carrying “106 balls of hashish equivalent to approximately 3.7 tons,” was seized after being spotted by an air force aircraft, according to AMN.

The four suspects, as well as the boat and the drugs, they were handed over to the police, who started an investigation.
