Australia: Djokovic breaks his silence – Tennis player Voratsova’s visa canceled

by

Novak Djokovic broke his silence inside the hotel in Australia where he is in quarantine, reports the sky news.

Novak Djokovic thanked his fans for their continued support, as he awaits the outcome of the appeal for his deportation, due to the rules for the coronavirus in Australia.

In a message to supporters on Instagram, world number one tennis wrote: “I thank people around the world for your continued support. I feel and appreciate it very much.”

And in a message written in Serbian, he stressed: “I thank my family, Serbia and all the good people around the world who send me support. I thank God dear for my health.”

Australian Home Secretary Karen Andrews has said that visas are being investigated for other foreign tennis players, following Novak Djokovic. Andrews commented that Djokovic “is not being held captive” in the country, and that he is “free to leave” at any time.

“Novak Djokovic is not a criminal, a terrorist or an illegal immigrant, but he has been treated as such by the Australian authorities, which is understandably provoking the outrage of his supporters and Serbian citizens,” the Serbian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“Block” in Voratsova as well

It is noted that after Novak Djokovic, it was the turn of Czech tennis player Renata Voracova to see her visa revoked.

The Czech athlete is now in the same hotel as Novak Djokovic ahead of the Australian Open.

Vorachova, number 80 in the world doubles rankings, had already played in the warm-up at the Australian Open in Melbourne. The 104 top players in the world automatically gain entry to a Grand Slam.

However, there were reports that her visa was revoked and she was being held by Border Guard officials at the Park Hotel in Carlton.

Voracova had cited the same reason as Djokovic, who appeared to have “natural immunity” after contracting the coronavirus for the past six months.

The Australian government clarified on Friday that a recent infection does not mean that a foreign national can travel to the country without being fully vaccinated.

ABC reports that it remains unclear whether the tennis player will leave the country immediately or will challenge the decision in court.
