On April 14, a surprise check was carried out in the Pacific Fleet. All its departments were put on full alert.
The Russian Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the resignation of the commander of the Pacific Fleet
Admiral Avakiants assumed command of the Pacific Fleet in 2012. He previously served on the staff of the North Sea Fleet and subsequently served as first deputy commander of the Pacific Fleet.
Parts of the Pacific Fleet are participating in hostilities in Ukraine. In the fall of 2022, soldiers serving in the 155th division of Russia’s Pacific Fleet appealed to the governor of the Primorye region Oleg Kozemiako asking him to conduct an independent audit regarding the actions of officers responsible for unprepared attacks and heavy casualties among soldiers .
According to military statements, the Marine brigade lost 300 people in four days of fighting. The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the losses of the 155th brigade did not exceed 1% of the combat strength.
Later, other sources including British intelligence reported that there were heavy losses of the 155th brigade of the Pacific Fleet in the Uglandar area.
