Landmark interview – in terms of open disagreement with her brother over the structure of the monarchy – given by Princess Anne
A rare and momentous interview – in terms of open disagreement with her brother over the structure of the monarchy – was given 5 days before the coronation of King Charles by his sister, Princess Anne.
Queen Elizabeth’s 72-year-old only daughter essentially went against the king when she declared that a “weakened monarchy” – that is, with fewer members of the royal family taking active roles – is not a good idea.

Before becoming king, Charles had expressed his desire for a “smaller and more economical” institution of the monarchy, with fewer working members of the royal family.
“I think the term ‘weakened monarchy’ was said at a time when there were more ‘working’ members of the family (referring to the period when Meghan, Harry and Andrew were still in office). Today doesn’t sound like a good idea from where I’m at, I’d say. I’m not sure what else we can do,” said Britain’s princess and regent.
After the “removal” of Prince Harry’s son and Prince Andrew’s brother (due to his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein), the new king decided to “fill” the vacancies by anointing his two younger siblings, Princess Anne as their replacements and Prince Edward.
The princess defended the institution of the monarchy saying it “provides, with the constitution, a degree of long-term stability that is really quite difficult to achieve in any other way”.
As for Charles, Anna declared that as king he will be the same man he is to this day and that the country will be “in good hands”
“Well, you know what you’re going to get because it’s been practiced for a while and I don’t think it’s going to change. He is committed to his own level of service,” he said.
