Four leading members of the far-right neo-fascist organization Proud Boys were found guilty Thursday of conspiracy against the state for trying to forcibly block the transfer of power in Washington from then-President Donald Trump to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.

In the ongoing trials, defendants Ethan Nordin, Joseph Biggs, Zachary Rell, Enrique Tario and Dominic Pezzola face a number of serious charges, including three separate counts of conspiracy against the state, obstruction of the Electoral College vote and falsification of information.

Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on specific charges for some of the defendants. The judge ordered them to continue discussions.

Members of the far-right group, CNN points out, viewed Joe Biden “and other leftists” as a threat to the country, according to prosecutors, and sent chilling messages to each other, stressing the need for “war,” “revolution” and “execution for traitors”.

On January 6, 2021 the Proud Boys were at the forefront of the mob at the Capitol, and were present when the first barriers of authority were breached. Prosecutors said the group’s leaders incited their members to storm the Capitol.

For their part, their lawyers argued that their clients never had a plan to storm the Capitol and stop the electoral college vote that day. “The messages and videos show nothing more than one stupid, vulgar rhetoric”the defense argued, “has little to do with a conspiracy against the US government.”
