Fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group has killed around 700 people so far, according to the non-governmental organization ACLED, which records the victims of the armed conflict. According to the UN, the injured are more than 5,000, while 115,000 have fled to neighboring countries and the internally displaced reach at least 335,000.
UNHCR expects 860,000 people to flee Sudan seeking safe haven in neighboring countries. In this context, Elizabeth Tan, director of the High Commission in charge of international protection, called on all countries not to issue negative decisions on the asylum requests of Sudanese or stateless persons living in this country.
