This temperature surpasses the previous national record of 43.4 degrees Celsius, recorded on April 20, 2019 in Huong Ke district
Vietnam recorded a record temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius yesterday at a weather station in the north of the country, according to authorities.
The measurement was made from a station in Tan Hoa province (central-northern part of the country), according to the national meteorological forecasting center.
This temperature surpasses the previous national record of 43.4 degrees Celsius, recorded on April 20, 2019 in Huong Khe District, Ha Tinh Province, Central Vietnam.
“It’s a worrying record in the context of climate change and global warming,” climate expert Nguyen Ngoc Hui told AFP from the capital Hanoi.
The climate in Vietnam varies by region but overall the country is now entering its warmest months.
South Asia has experienced a heat wave for most of the month of April while neighboring countries have also recorded record temperatures.
“I believe this record will be repeated many times,” said Nguyen Ngoc Hui. “It confirms that extreme climate models are proving accurate.”
