The Italian writer revealed that she is suffering from cancer and has only a few months left to live
A shocking interview in the Corriere della Sera newspaper was granted by the well-known Italian writer Michela Murgia, who spoke, with disarming honesty, about her health condition. “I have advanced stage kidney cancer and the doctors who said that they stay with me few months of life»said the author, fifty years old, originally from Sardinia.
Her interview shocked Italy and thousands of social media users, as well as public figures, commented on it, underlining that it is a force of soul that moves, inspires respect and shows, at the same time, that every moment of life should be characterized by absolute dignity .
“Cancer is not something I have, it is something I am, it is an ally of my complexity, it is not an enemy to be neutralized. I can’t, I don’t want to fight my body, myself,” underlines Michela Murgia. He adds that he chose immunotherapy, with bio-medicines, which do not affect the disease, but favor the reaction of the immune system and can allow it to gain time.
As the author explains, at this stage, “it wouldn’t make sense to undergo an operation because there are already many metastases.”
“I am fifty years old, but I have lived ten lives. I did things that the vast majority of people never do in a lifetime. Things I didn’t even know I wanted, I have precious memories”, says the Italian intellectual. Her novel entitled Accabadora has also been published in Greek, translated by Efi Kallifatidis (Medousa – Selas Publishing House, 2016).
Michela Murgia also clearly implies that if she finds herself in a situation that will not allow her to communicate with the surrounding environment and express her will, her loved ones – as she asked them – will choose her way of euthanasia.
“I’m not alone, I have ten people around me, a “queer family”. I bought a ten bed house for us all to live in and the only thing that upset me is that I was refused a mortgage because I am sick. I did everything needed and now I am getting married. With a man, but it could also be a woman. Caring for each other, for us, has never been about gender.”he tells Corriere della Sera.
The author, who belongs to the left, with a political reference, finally added that “I hope to die when Georgia Meloni is no longer Prime Minister”, because he considers thati “her government is fascist.”
“I didn’t meet her personally and I don’t share her ideas, but I want to hug Michela Murgia and tell her that we all support her. And that I really hope he will be able to see the day when I will no longer be prime minister – as he wishes – because I want to continue doing this job, for a long time to come. Give it to him, Michaela,” replied Meloni through her social media account.
