A rock that is most likely a meteorite has landed in the bedroom of a house in New Jersey in the US, according to the authorities.
It hit the roof of the house at noon on Monday and fell into the room, opening a hole in the ceiling.
Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the incident, so no injuries were reported, according to CNN.
A woman who lives at the home said “I touched it because I thought it was just a stone”, saying the metal object fell into her father’s bedroom and “it was hot”.
“Thank God my father was not here. Nobody was here,” he added.
Police said the rock was about 10 to 15 centimeters in size and contacted other agencies to identify it.
According to the Guardian, everyone who came into contact with this stone was screened for possible radiation exposure.
Meteorites are not easy to distinguish from other types of metallic rocks.
Researchers looking for meteorites usually look for a fusion crust, a glassy coating that forms on their outer surface and melts when the meteorite falls into Earth’s atmosphere.
Another distinguishing feature is its weight as the meteorite will be much heavier than a stone as it is filled with heavy metals.
