Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on all Latin American countries to support his country and condemn Russia’s “aggression” on Thursday, ending a two-day visit to Guatemala.

During a press conference, Mr. Kouleba denounced the “neutrality” observed by the governments of countries in the region, judging that they favor “the continuation of the attack” by Russia.

“We believe that the countries of Latin America should adopt the attitude of Guatemala and (…) condemn the attack” of Russia, he insisted.

Guatemala is among the few countries in the region to express support for Ukraine since the start of the Russian military invasion of its territory on February 24, 2022. Five months later, Guatemalan President Alejandro Yamate visited Kyiv in a show of solidarity.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy criticized the Latin American governments who think that “it is best to remain neutral” and those who “say that this war is a problem of Europe”.

Mr. Kuleba attended the 9th meeting of Caribbean Heads of State and Government in the city of Antigua Guatemala (southwest) as an invited guest.

“Russia will lose this war and pay for the crimes of this war,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said.

For his part, President Yamatey assured that “Guatemala will continue to support Ukraine politically and diplomatically”, while wishing that “the war ends quickly and the reconstruction of Ukraine begins”.
